As Counselor at Five Points Elementary, I plan to incorporate skills that will be beneficial in your child's life later on when he/she exits into the real world. Some of the skills I teach are learning how to get along with other children, controlling anger, making good decisions, peer pressure, acceptance of others, accepting responsibility, concentrating on safety, eliminating bullying and violence, becoming aware of the dangers of drugs, focusing on test taking skills, and being aware of their own uniqueness as well as their strengths and weaknesses. One of my major functions is to be of help, service, and assistance to parents as well as the children. If you have a particular concern about your child, I welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss the matter. When school personnel and parents work together, it is a winning combinaton for the children. All children deserve to be winners! I am at Five Points on Mondays and Tuesdays and at Shawmut on Thursdays and Fridays. I rotate between the two schools on Wednesdays. FYI Parents if you need assistance with your child's homework, there is a live online help web site that is available to help students with their homework and it is FREE! The web site is www.homeworkalabama.org It is for students from 4th - 12th grades and the site is open from 3 p.m. - midnight C.S.T., seven days a week. You can call Alabama Public Library at 1-800-723-8459 or visit their web site at www.apls.state.al.us for more information. Thanks, Linda Osborne
